2005 News and HighlightsNovember I wasn't sure where to put this on my website, so I'll put it here for now. A couple of years ago my youngest daughter came home from school to tell me that their teacher had, as part of a religious parable comparing sheep and goats, told them that goats are dirty, sly, eat tin cans, and every other common and insulting misconception about goats. I was so shocked and disappointed that I sat right down and wrote the following article, entitled "Why do Goats Get Such a Bad Rap?" I made copies for every child in my daughter's class, and welcome anyone who likes to print the article out for their own use and to educate others who might be unfamiliar with what tremendous benefit these creatures have been to mankind, from earliest history to now. Enjoy! Why do Goats Get Such a Bad Rap? October After taking a long vacation of almost two and a half years from kidding, our homebred National Champion doe Zinnia presented us with beautiful triplet does! We are retaining all of these pretty girls - look for pictures soon. The does have started coming in heat right and left and we have started breeding for early spring 2005 babies. Check out the Kidding Schedule for the latest developments! September
Our gorgeous Fancy Free, a 6 month old daughter of MCH Fantasea and Shadowfax, not only earned her ADGA junior leg at the Washington County Fair in Brenham, TX, she went on to be Best Junior Doe in Show! August
We would also like to congratulate Suzanne Nevada on her big wins at the Alaska State Fair and her two new pending Master Champions: MCH Twin Creeks WB Sebastian Bach*S and ARMCH Twin Creeks PM Scarlet *D. Sebastian was also Best Buck in Show over the big boys in the two ADGA shows! Great job Suzanne! July
Congrats to Cheryl Sugar on her new MCH....Twin Creeks WB Talk About Me! "Gabby" is a daughter of our beautiful Zinnia and was the 2004 AGS National Champion Junior Doe. She grew up nicely we think! I recently updated Twink's Pixie's page - go take a look! I just found out about another Twin Creeks doe who finished this summer: MCH Twin Creeks BH Shining Sand, owned by the Stangeland family in Washington. Shining Sand is a 2nd freshening Bay Watch daughter. Congrats - she's obviously well loved and well cared for! Buck Sale! We have too many bucks in the buck pen, so are offering two mature herd sires for sale at this time. Check them out here. June Congrats to owners David and Katrina Aguirre and family on AGS 2005 Reserve National ChampionMCH Twin Creek BW Aragorn *SThis is the second year in a row that Aragorn has been Reserve Champion at the AGS National Show - not bad for a two year old! We won't be attending the 2005 AGS Nationals this year. I'm really going to miss being there this year but it's just too far for me, my aging Suburban and the goats to travel in the summer heat, and I don't want to be away from my family here in Texas that long. Best of luck and safe travel to all of those from all over the country who are attending! Our spring/summer show season ended with a bang with a 4-ring dual sanctioned (AGS/ADGA) Nigerian Dwarf show in Duncan, OK. Here's what we did: Good
Day Sunshine 3 x Best of Breed (Challenge Winner) Sparkles
2 x GCH Senior, 1 x Best Udder Fantasea
1 x GCH Sr, 1 x RsCH Sr, 2 x Best Udder Seashell
1 x RsCH Sr Butterfly
1 x RsCH Sr Fancy
Free 1 x GCH Jr Disco
Darlin 1 x RsCH Jr Adagio
3 x Jr CH Buck, 1 x RsCH Buck Shadowfax
1 x RsCH Buck Not a bad way to finish the show season! We will now be drying the herd off and doing some "family stuff" for the rest of the summer, and will be hitting the show ring again in September. Good Day Sunshine is our first finished champion doe in ADGA! We're very proud of our elegant old lady! As of our last show of the spring season she had earned 6 Best of Breed or Champion Challenge titles and one Best Doe in Show! May We had a thrilling time at a 3-ring ADGA show on May 21st. We took GCH, Reserve and Best Udder under all 3 judges. Fantasea was Best Udder in all 3 rings, with Good Day Sunshine, Sparkes, Black Dahlia and Fantasea all taking grands and/or reserves. I think the doe we are proudest of tho is Good Day Sunshine. At the age of 9 years, with 11 freshenings to her credit, she was Grand Champion in 2 rings and BEST DOE IN SHOW under judge Aaron Carter! She seems ageless, with the feet and legs, dairy character, naturally level topline and elegance that many much younger does can't match. As a first freshening yearling one judge called her "exquisite" and now at 9 years she's been called "a poster child for longevity in this breed". And to top it all off she has one of the sweetest personalities in the barn! April
Thanks Gary and Sandra for doing such a great job with her! Our winning Breeders Trio under judge Melinda Butler at the Texas Caprine Club Mini Mania Left to right: MCH Meadowlark (owned by Sandra Whitehead), Madam Butterfly and MCH Fantasea March
January Twin Creeks Farm is now TX Twincreeks Farm
We have a new name! Beginning this year we will be using the herdname "TX Twincreeks" in order to maintain the same herd name with both AGS and ADGA. Same quality goats - just a very slightly different name! As we've done for the past 8 years, we began our show season at the Fort Worth Stock Show. Due to a combination of factors, this show has gotten progressively smaller over the last several years, but the competition continues to be strong in quality if not in quantity. This show has always been a good one for us and this year was no exception. In the two ring show, Clementine was GCH under both judges, and Best Udder under one, finishing her MCH with a total of 4 GCH's. Her herdmate Chardonnay played bridesmaid to her under each judge, earning 2 more Reserves, and Clementine and Chardonnay were awarded "Best Pair" twice. Most of our home bred does were not fresh for this show, but we did get a RsCH on Goodnight Moon, and best Breeders Trio with Ariel, Miata and Goodnight Moon.
